What server types does BluVault support for backup?
BluVault for Servers specializes in backing up Windows Servers. Windows Server 2012 and above can be protected.
Which backup types does BluVault support?
BluVault performs an initial full backup, followed by incremental backups. Unlike other backup software which require weekly full backups, BluVault supports ‘incrementals forevers’. Because of its smart cataloguing feature, BluVault’s restore speeds are unaffected no matter how any incremental backups are run after the initial full backup.
BluVault also supports a ‘delta incremental’ or a ‘partial file backup’. While a normal incremental backup identifies files that have changed since the last backup, a delta-incremental can identify changes within files that have occurred. BluVault’s delta-incremental feature allows it to backup only the portions of files which have changed thus saving on network bandwidth and storage costs. Even large files like PSTs, OSTs and ISOs can be backed up efficiently this way.
Is system state backup supported?
Yes, BluVault supports System State backup and recovery – which includes vital operating system data including the registry, event logs, Active Directory etc.
How does Parablu perform backups for DB or Application servers?
BluVault for Servers has built-in support for MS SQL Server. Oracle backups can also be configured easily using Oracle data pump or RMAN commands. Almost all applications can be supported by using BluVault’s pre-and post-command call-outs which allow for an application to be quiesced briefly while BluVault is able to take a snapshot and backup a quiesced, consistent copy of the application.
How does the license model work for server backup?
BluVault for Servers is licensed per server. Each server license comes with 500GB of managed data protection included. Backups for data over 500GB can be purchased via one or more Managed Data add-on packs.
Can both physical and virtual servers be backed up?
Yes. The BluVault for Servers agent is the same and can be used on both physical and virtual servers.
Is there an option to store server data in the cloud or offsite?
Yes. Parablu offers all solutions in a SaaS model – which is fully hosted and managed in the cloud. Cloud storage can also be provisioned by Parablu as part of the SaaS subscription – to store the backups. Alternatively, if the customer wishes to provide their own cloud destination for backups, Parablu supports a wide variety of cloud storage target such as AWS S3, Azure Blob, Google Cloud, IBM Cloud etc.
Does BluVault support NAS/SAN backup?
Yes. SAN/NAS storage attached to the server can be backed up as Managed Data.
