Delegated Administration for efficient data backup management
Data backup is the best insurance against all forms of data loss – whether due to cyberattacks, insider threats, or just operational errors. A reliable data backup solution, when deployed correctly, can help businesses automate endpoint data backups and ensure high fidelity data protection. But for enterprises, a strong data protection strategy is more than just deploying a good backup solution. That is just half the battle.
The secure ecosystem that data backup solutions are supposed to create for corporate data is incomplete without the right administrative and compliance tools. And in large organizations with multi-national presence and users spread out over the globe, confining the administrative role of backup operations to a few people within the IT team in headquarters, is simply impractical. Administration involves examining reports, identifying gaps in coverage, regular monitoring, and management of possibly several thousand registered devices. Not having a tiered, role-based administration hierarchy can be a non-starter, and simply won’t scale.

Parablu’s BluVault comes with a centralized management console that enables backup administrators to remotely manage all backups/restores, push policies and perform other key activities on all registered devices. BluVault further enhances this feature with an option to create multiple administrators and assign them different delegated roles and responsibilities.
With BluVault’s Delegated Administration feature, a global administrator can create more administrators and assign them with management and administrative responsibilities for specific users. Users can be conveniently grouped in policies – which in turn can be assigned to Delegated Administrators. Once an administrator is given delegated administration privileges over a set of users who are in a specific policy (or policies), he/she gets assigned all essential administrator-like privileges over them and can perform all salient administrative tasks for that specific group of users.
How to designate a user as a Delegated Administrator in the Parablu Portal
1. Login to the Parablu Portal
2. On the Parablu Portal home, go to the Users tab
3. On the List of Users page, identify the user who needs to be assigned as a delegated administrator
4. For the user, under the Actions column, click the Edit Profile button
5. On the Edit Profile page, select the Delegated Administrator option from the Account Type dropdown menu
6. Under the Backup Information section, select the backup policy (or policies) from the Manage Backup Policies dropdown menu
7. Click on Save to complete
Once done, the identified delegated administrator will have administrator-like privileges to perform all salient administrative tasks for the group of users under the specified policies assigned to him/her.
